The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University invites applications for Chair of the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences ( The Chair will lead a complex department with faculty in Epidemiology, Ambulatory and Production Medicine, Shelter Medicine, Global, Wildlife and Public Health, and the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) with its comprehensive diagnostic services in infectious diseases, clinical pathology and other domains. The mission of the department is to promote the health, productivity, and welfare of food-and fiber-producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations, to ensure the safety of foods of animal origin, and to prevent animal disease with its associated risks to human health.

The college seeks a dynamic individual to lead the department in all aspects of academic activity, including stewardship of resources and personnel. In collaboration with the faculty, the Chair fosters excellence in teaching, clinical and diagnostic service, and research for the advancement of animal and human health. The Chair provides oversight for the recruitment, retention and professional development of departmental faculty and staff and works closely with the Executive Director of the AHDC to coordinate department and diagnostic laboratory functions. The Chair furthermore is expected to pursue scholarly activities in their area of expertise.

Applicants will have a veterinary degree with advanced degree(s) or diplomate status in a recognized specialty board, or have a PhD in a discipline relevant to department interests. The successful candidate will have a record of leadership, active participation in academic affairs, and evidence of balance and excellence in teaching, research and/or clinical and diagnostic activities.
