The National Veterinary School of Toulouse (France) invites applications for a residency position in Veterinary Comparative Nutrition. The position will be available from 1st September 2017.
The applicant will enrol in a 3-year residency programme with the European College of Veterinary Comparative Nutrition (ECVCN) and pursue study and training to complete the ECVCN Diploma examination under the mentorship of Nathalie Priymenko DrVetMed, PhD, DipECVCN (Program Director and Resident Supervisor), and Pr Francis Enjalbert, DrVetMed, PhD, DipECVCN (Resident Advisor).
The aim of this comparative nutrition program is to guide the resident to become familiar with the nutrition of companion animals. The resident will spend approximately 50% of his time in the clinical functions of the National Veterinary School of Toulouse nutrition service. Each resident will see approximately 500 animals per year and have primary case responsibility for about 200 animals per year. Our case spectrum includes dogs, cats, horses, and exotic animals. In addition, residents will spend approximately 40% of their time participating in rounds and seminars, investigative work and other forms of training and will follow farm animals’ visit concerning nutrition and troubles due to poisonous plants.
Good interpersonal and learning skills are essential. For international applicants, it is essential that the successful applicant has a registerable veterinary degree in France, as well as an appropriate work permit. Successful applicants need to speak French fluently as client and student interactions typically are in French.
Individuals applying for this residency must meet the qualifications required for board-certification by the European College of Veterinary Comparative Nutrition:
Resident applicants must:
- be veterinary graduates;
- have completed a minimum one year full time work, either as classical clinical or rotating Internship, i.e. clinical experience in managing clinical cases in an animal hospital setting, or an equivalent that is relevant to veterinary and comparative nutrition. It is preferred that the internship is fulfilled under the supervision of at least one EBVS approved Diplomate (any specialty).
Remuneration is about 1400 €/month, for a 5-day working week, with 27-day annual leave. No clinical out of hours work would be expected. The position will be for 12 months in the first instance and is renewable on an annual basis for up to three years, subject to satisfactory review.
