Prof. Felix Antonio Acosta Arbelo


EBVS® European Specialist in Aquatic Animal Health

Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1969, he completed his university studies at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where he graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 1997, defending his undergraduate thesis in 1999 and the Doctoral Thesis in 2002. Since its inception , he worked in the pathology research with various publications at national and international level, with the completion of the Doctoral Thesis, his activity has focused on the field of immunology, mainly in the study of non-specific immune response, doing training periods in reference centers (FRS Marine Laboratory, Scotland), as well as publications in the best located journals in the area and in the detection of biotoxins. Currently, he is a full professor at the University in the Area of ‚Äč‚ÄčAnimal Health, with the profile of Infectious Diseases and Ictiopathology at the Veterinary Faculty of the ULPGC, and develops his research activity at the University Institute of Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems (IU - ECOAQUA) of the ULPGC. He has participated in 22 projects financed with public or private and regional, national or European funds, of which he has been (or is) a responsible researcher in 4 of them, and is co-author of 58 publications in international scientific journals, and patent (P201101353) . He has a demonstrated capacity for training, participating since 2004 as a professor in the Master of Animal Health and Aquaculture of the ULPGC, as well as in the doctoral programs in Animal Health and Aquaculture of the ULPGC, the four with mention of Excellence of the Ministry. , this training capacity is completed with the direction of 7 doctoral thesis and 3 master thesis.
