Dr. Manuel Magalhães Sant'Ana

From the University of Porto, Portugal, Dr. Magalhães-Sant'Ana received his DVM in 2001, his MSc in bioethics (2008) and his PhD in veterinary ethics education (2014). Manuel is interested in the teaching of veterinary ethics and in exploring the relation between animal ethics and professional ethics. He was part of the FVE/EAEVE working group to develop a core curriculum in animal welfare in European veterinary education (2012–13). He was Veterinary Council Educational Trust Newman Fellow in Veterinary Ethics at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University College Dublin, Ireland (2014–16). He is currently responsible for the project VETHICS-2022 – A structured approach to describing and addressing the ethical challenges of the veterinary profession in Portugal (Portuguese Veterinary Order – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon, Portugal). He is also Vice-President of the Disciplinary Committee of the Portuguese Veterinary Order and external expert for the World Animal Protection Global Animal Network.
