Dr El-Sayed Abdelwhab
Dr. Abdelwhab studied veterinary medicine at Zagazig University, Egypt (1995-2000) and obtained his master degree on poultry and rabbit diseases from the same faculty (2002-2006). He worked as a field veterinarian and a researcher at the Animal Health Research Institute and the National Laboratory for Veterinary Quality Control on Poultry Production, Egypt (2001-2008). In 2008-2011, he got his doctoral degree from the Institute of Poultry Diseases, Free Berlin University, Germany. From 2012 to 2016, he was granted postdoctoral fellowship from Alexander von Humboldt foundation and German Research Foundation (DVG) at Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI), Insel Riems, Germany to study the impact of influenza virus mutations on virulence, host-adaptation and immune-escape by reverse-genetics. Currently, he is the head of laboratory for molecular biology of avian influenza at the FLI. His main interest is molecular biology and to develop tools for protection against the viral diseases, particularly influenza virus, in poultry. From 2008 to 2018, he has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications (articles, abstracts and book chapter) in addition to over 70 poster and oral presentations in international scientific conferences.
