Dr Luján obtained his DVM degree in 1986 from the University of Zaragoza and was awarded a PhD by the same University in 1991. He was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh before becoming a lecturer in Veterinary Pathology at the Department of Animal Pathology of the University of Zaragoza, where his activities include teaching, research and diagnostic work. His scientific interests include farm animal pathology and in particular ovine pathology (lentiviruses: Visna/maedi; amyloidosis; scrapie and immune reactions linked to over vaccination) as well as diagnostic pathology in general.
Lluis Luján has been an active member of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists since becoming a Diplomate in 1998 and has served on the Examination Committee (1999-2005) and Council (2002-05). He was vice-president from 2005-07, President from 2007-09 and Past president from 2009-11 and currently chairs the College Nominations committee. He has organized two ECVP/ESVP Summer Schools in Veterinary Pathology (2008 and 2009) and was a member of the scientific committee of the annual congress of the ESVP/ECVP (2008 till 2014).
