Prof Outi Maritta Vainio
EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology
Since 2003, I have been Professor of Veterinary Pharmacology at the University of Helsinki. My main research interest is in pharmacotherapy and pharmacodynamics of drugs alleviating pain.
Before joining Academia I work for a pharmaceutical company where I was deeply involved in development of the veterinary sedatives detomidine, medetomidine, dexmedetomidine, and their antagonist atipamezole.
Presently my research is focused on pharmaceutical alleviation of pain in animals; including development of novel methods, such as eye tracking and thermography, to detect pain in non-human animals. I have a strong interest in translational animal models.
