Prof. Jacobsen received her veterinary degree from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Denmark, in 1998, and a PhD in veterinary clinical sciences from the same university in 2003. Prof. Jacobsen has worked in the Large Animal Teaching Hospital, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, since 2003, interrupted by a Marie Curie fellowship at Utrecht University, The Netherlands, a post doc position at Wageningen University, The Netherlands, and several international study visits to veterinary universities and equine hospitals across Europe, Canada, and South Africa. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and more than 100 international conference contributions, supervised and assessed more than 15 Ph.D. students, and she is an associate editor of the journal BMC Veterinary Research and reviews manuscripts for 20 journals within the veterinary and human medical fields. Prof. Jacobsen divides her time between research, pre- and post-graduate teaching of veterinary students and clinical work at the Large Animal Teaching Hospital of University of Copenhagen
