Dr James Chatterton

DipECZM (ZHM) MSc MRCVS

EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Zoo Health Management

I am currently the manager of Veterinary Services at Auckland Zoo and have been in this role since 2014. I recently obtained diplomat status (EBVS ZHM) via examination. I am also the lead veterinary advisor to the Department of Conservation's Kākāpō Recovery program and I am one of the veterinary representatives on the Red Panda GSMP. I graduated from Edinburgh University (Scotland) in 2000 and have subsequently worked with zoo/wildlife for 12 years (and the other 9 years with domestic animals). I completed a 3-year zoo vet residency at Chester Zoo in the UK in 2010, during which time I also obtained the RCVS CertZooMed and an MSc in Vet Science (predominantly involving wildlife infectious disease control).
