Dominik Fischer graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Germany in 2009. Since then he is working as veterinarian in the Bird of Prey Center and Wildlife Zoo Hellenthal, Germany and as research associate and clinician at the Clinic for Birds, Reptiles, Amphibians and Fish of Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany. In Giessen he completed a 3-years graduate school programme (Giessen Graduate School of the Life Sciences) and his doctoral thesis (Dr. med. vet.) about aspergillosis in falcons. Parallel he worked on an international PhD and various scientific projects about assisted reproduction in birds and reptiles. Other research topics covered infectious diseases and clinical studies in captive and free-ranging animals of various taxa. By completing two 4-years specialization trainings and subsequent exams he earned the national veterinary specialist statuses in poultry and avian medicine in 2013 and in reptilian medicine in 2017. He successfully completed a 3-years residency training of the European College of Zoological Medicine in Wildlife Population Health in Giessen, Germany and earned the ECZM an EVBS® Specialist status by board examination in 2019. Dominik is currently president of the European Association of Avian Veterinarians (EAAV) and member of various associations about wildlife, zoo and exotic animal medicine.
