ESDA was founded in 2009 and is dedicated to all those interested or involved in research in the field of animal and human Dirofilaria infections and Angiostrongylus vasorum infections in dogs.
ESDA would like to invite you to its Clinical Workshop which will be held on Sunday May 28th, 2017, during the 2017 annual meeting of the Italian Companion Animal Veterinary Association (SCIVAC), in Rimini Italy, May 26th-28th.
The workshop will be an exceptional occasion to join international experts in the field and learn the most recent developments in the epidemiology, diagnosis and clinical management of these increasingly important parasites.
Renowned parasitologists Claudio Genchi (IT) and Fernando Simon (ES) will update the current diffusion of Dirofilaria spp in Europe, while physicians Elisabetta Scoccia (IT) and Vladimir Karteshev (RU) will discuss several clinical cases of human dirofilariosis, which is on the rise in many areas of Europe, but which is often misdiagnosed, due to a lack of awareness that ESDA hopes to improve. Drs. Marco Genchi, Simone Manzocchi and Laura Kramer will illlustrate the most common diagnostic tests for Dirofilaria and Angiostrongylus, including the "dos and don'ts" and the most common pitfalls in interpreting tests results. Veterinary clinician Elena Carretòn (ES) will illustrate the usefulness of biomarkers in the clinical management of heartworm disease.
International heartworm expert Clarke Atkins (USA) will walk us through the use of diagnostic imaging and, together with me, will involve the audience in a series of clinical cases of heartworm disease. The session will finish up with the current recommendations from the ESDA guide lines for the adulticide treatment of Dirofilaria spp. and A. vasorum.
