About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer Clinical Academic – Sports Medicine Specialist whose primary focus will be to expandknowledge and clinical proficiency within the discipline of Equine Sports Medicine. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the development of the Centre of Excellence forequine sports medicine part of the Camden Equine Centre(CEC) within the University Teaching Hospital. The Vision of the Centre is to be a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of horses with sports related injuries and illnesses through innovative research in the field while training the veterinarians of the future.

Reporting to the Unit Head Equine and Associate Head of Clinical Sciences, the Senior Lecturer is expected to make a significant contribution to the research, education and administrative endeavours of their School/ Faculty while building their reputation towards becoming an authority in the discipline. As a Senior Lecturer you will be hands on in the education of DVM students and residents in Equine Sports Medicine and practice. You will provide specialist level clinical services to clients of the Equine Sports Medicine Service at UVTHC while delivering internationally recognised research in the discipline in conjunction with collaborators in the SSVS.

The Sydney School of Veterinary Science is a world-class centre for student learning, research excellence and animalwelfare, part of the Faculty of Science. It is recognised internationally as a leading provider of globally accreditedveterinary education and is ranked as Australia’s leading veterinary school and 11th in the world in QIS rankings. SSVSalso holds the highest research ranking (ERA 5/5) in veterinary science.

The SSVS provides a comprehensive clinical service program across the two campuses of the School. This is facilitatedby advanced imaging capacity to support equine including standing MRI, Nuclear Scintigraphy, Equine Treadmill andUltrasound at the Camden campus. A Specialist Anaesthesia and pathology services are in place on site to support the Sports Medicineand the Equine program. There is a large equine operating suite with theatre, induction room and recently constructedanteroom to provide expected levels of biosecurity.

About you

  • a veterinary degree registerable in NSW
  • a specialist qualification inEquine Sports Medicine registerable in NSW
  • a PhD (desirable) in the area of equine science with quality publications
  • a track record in research in equine science /sports medicine
  • a willingness to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Higher Education) or a comparable PG course in teaching and learning

 SSVS is committed to high-quality teaching and as such, the appointee will be expected toundertaketheGraduateCertificate inEducationalStudies(HigherEducation),oracomparable postgraduatecourse inteachingand learning. This can be waived if an equivalent qualification has been attained from another University.
