EQUINE INTERNAL MEDICINE SPECIALIST LOCUM, 3 MONTH POSITION UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA

The Department of Companion Animal Clinical Studies at the University of Pretoria, South Africa is seeking an Internal medicine specialist to join our hospital for a 3 month period (October 2017 till December 2017).

Our hospital aims to provide the best emergency and critical care possible to our clients and referring veterinarians.

All staff in the equine hospital are committed to maintaining a friendly working atmosphere with a very good team work ethic.

The Faculty of Veterinary Science has a state-of-the-art Small & Large Animal Hospital, which includes 7 small animal surgery and 2 large animal surgery theatres.

The Equine Clinic caseload is diverse from Grand Prix show jumpers to pleasure horses and ponies with occasional wildlife cases.

The Equine Clinic has 13 critical care stables situated in a high biosecurity area, 14 general stables, 4 neonatal ICU stables, 4 semi-isolation units and 2 full isolation units.

Additionally, the hospital is supported by a comprehensive clinical laboratory (accredited by the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology), digital radiography and ultrasonography, computed tomography, nuclear scintigraphy, video gastroscopy and overground endoscopy.

The Faculty of Veterinary Science (located at Onderstepoort) is located on a beautiful campus on the outskirts in the northern part of Pretoria.

Pretoria has a population of approximately 2 million and is situated 70 km north of Johannesburg. Several game reserves are nearby, including the Kruger National park (380 km away) and Pilansberg National park (125 km away) which gives plenty of options for outdoor activities and leisure.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree from a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association or ECFVG certification.

• Board certified in a large animal internal medicine (ACVIM, ECVIM)
