ICAT-2 programme Veterinary Fellowships 2023 - closing date 30th September 2022

The Irish Clinical Academic Training Programme (ICAT-2) is pleased to announce an exciting new
academic track for all veterinary specialties enabled through financial support from the Department
of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The ICAT Programme supports individuals in the medical,
veterinary and dentistry fields who aspire to become the next generation of clinical academic leaders
We are now seeking to recruit an outstanding veterinary clinician for the August 2023 intake to
complement the intake of 8 other Fellows from the medical/dentistry fields.
ICAT-2 Fellowships offer an unparalleled opportunity to undertake a research PhD, with combined
clinical specialist training/practice in a world-leading research centre at University College Dublin.
The programme aims to train world-class clinical academic leaders, across the island of Ireland. ICAT
offers infrastructure, experience and expertise with matched financial support to provide the
broadest possible range of research and training opportunities.
The Opportunity:
ICAT-2 Veterinary Clinical Lectureships provide:
(i) an introductory year with 80% clinical time in the relevant discipline at the School of
Veterinary Medicine, allowing completion or development of clinical specialisation, and 20%
academic time. The latter provides time to (a) identify a cross-disciplinary supervisory
structure across two institutions with support for international collaborations and (b) prepare
a planned research proposal that outlines the three-year PhD studies.
(ii) years 2-4 with 90% academic and 10% clinical time allowing full immersion in research.
Your skills and attributes for success:
• MVB or equivalent veterinary degree that allows for full registration with the Veterinary Council
of Ireland
• Evidence of completion or near completion of an EBVS/AVMA veterinary specialist training
