Pride Veterinary Centre in Derby, UK - Internal Medicine Intern- submission 30 April

The Role

Desire to pursue a residency is not a requirement, however, the internship program is aimed at preparing the candidate for an internal medicine residency. The successful candidate will need to be a member of the RCVS at the time of starting the internship. Two letters of recommendation will be requested from the short-listed candidates. In the Intern role, you can expect to work 48 hours a week, getting involved in a variety of shifts, involving day shifts, weekends, out of hours etc.

About Us

Pride Veterinary Centre is a large, purpose built, state-of-the-art referral hospital in Derby. It provides the main small animal hospital for the Scarsdale Veterinary Group, a multi-species practice employing over 300 staff across 12 sites in the Midlands. The facilities include thirteen consultation rooms, seven hospital wards, five theatres, two ultrasound rooms, a cardiology suite, an advanced imaging suite with CT and MR imaging, interventional radiology capability, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool and treadmills, a dedicated chemotherapy room, and radioiodine treatment rooms.

Pride Veterinary Centre is a multidisciplinary referral centre offering specialist services in anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, oncology, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology, exotics and dermatology. It also boasts an on-site hydrotherapy and physiotherapy service. The hospital provides 24/7 veterinary care, supported by a dedicated night team. The practice has close links with the University of Nottingham, and their final year veterinary students rotate through both the first opinion and referral services at Pride. The hospital is ideally located at the edge of Derby city centre with good transport links to other major cities via road and rail networks. East Midlands Airport and Birmingham International Airport offer convenient access to domestic and international destinations. The beautiful Peak District is just around the corner.

Applicant Requirements

We are looking for someone who has clinical experience in general practice and/or, a one-year rotating internship. Membership of the RCVS. Good English language (verbal and written). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to work hard and to work as part of a team. Reliability and ability to work well under pressure.
