The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Justus-Liebig-Universität-Giessen, Germany invites applications for a W1 Professorship (with W2 tenure track) in Basic sciences in veterinary internal medicine of small animals
The position is offered with the earliest possible starting date for a period of six years pursuant to § 64 Para. 3 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG). According to § 64 Para. 3 HHG, the applicant should have gained a doctoral degree at an institution of higher education other than Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) or have been in academic employment at an institution other than JLU for at least two years after conferral of a doctoral degree. The duration of said post-doctoral employment may not exceed four years or, in the case of successful completion of further academic training pursuant to § 62 Para. 6 HHG, may not exceed seven years. In the case of successful completion of the six-year W1 position, which is to be assessed in an evaluation procedure pursuant to § 64 Para. 2 HHG, the appointment will be converted into a permanent W2 professorship. Proficient knowledge of German language is expected.
We expect the ability to represent internal medicine of small animals including laboratory diagnostics and dietetics together with the other professorships at the clinic for small animals in research and teaching. The teaching area comprises small animal internal medicine according to the German regulations for licensing of veterinarians (TAppV). Additionally to scientific achievements in veterinary medicine, educational qualifications are required. Candidates with the license to practice veterinary medicine are especially welcome to apply.
We expect recognized research activities in the field of metabolic diseases or immunology (e.g., inflammatory processes, autoimmune diseases), as well as experiences and skills in clinical research. Successful (international) fund-raising activities, planning and implementation of self-initiated research groups is expected as well as the participation at the Giessen Graduate School for the Life Sciences (GGL). The professorship should actively engage in further profiling of the faculty by creating its own international connections. We expect participation in the national and international cooperation of the faculty. Relevant, international publications in selected peer-reviewed journals are assumed. The willingness to take part in interdisciplinary cooperations and in large research programs is expected. The integration of gender issues in teaching and research is strongly encouraged.
